A Unique Energy Library
Orkustofnun operates one of the largest library in the field of geothermal energy in the world.
About 20,000 titles of energy related issues is available for use on site, mainly reports published by Orkustofnun and Iceland Geosurvey (ÍSOR), reports and annuls from UNU-GTP, articles by staff from the institutions, books, doctoral thesis, conference proceedings and reports from other publishers.
A large share of the library holding is not found in other libraries. Subjects covered are energy research and development such as geothermal energy, hydropower and earth sciences.
In the library you can for example find documents concerning wells in Iceland. The institution has kept this information in place for years so that one can find information about each specific well in Iceland and determine whether it is cold water well or hot water well.
It offers personnel at the National Energy Authority, Iceland Geosurvey, and United Nations University Geothermal Training Program students, access to information and sources concerning research, study and teaching.
The library closed on 31.12.2022.
